Mike Brown is an accomplished entrepreneur who in 1994 co-founded Euronet Worldwide in Budapest, Hungary to bring ATM transaction convenience to the cash-based Central European community. He has served as the Company’s chief executive officer ever since and is also the chairman of Euronet's board of directors since 1997.
Mr. Brown is a recognized leader in the global payments industry, particularly for his pioneering efforts in emerging markets. His insight and understanding of emerging markets was instrumental in Euronet’s expansion from a $4 million funded venture to a global payments processor with operations in the U.S., Europe, the Middle-East, Africa and Asia Pacific.
Today, Euronet is a successful, public company listed on NASDAQ (EEFT) with 2007 revenues of $918 million and approximately 2,500 employees providing payment and transaction processing services for customers in 42 countries. Mr. Brown is actively involved in the day-to-day operations of Euronet while overseeing the Company's business strategy, financial performance and overall growth of the business across all markets. Euronet has received several noted industry accolades. The Company was named to Forbes’ magazine lists of 200 Best Small Companies (2007) and 25 fastest-growing technology companies in the U.S. (2006 and 2007) and recognized as one of America’s 100 fastest-growing companies by Fortune magazine (2005 and 2006).
Mr. Brown has nearly 30 years of combined experience in the computer software and electronic payments business. In 1979, he founded Innovative Software, which merged in 1988 with Informix, a leading provider of advanced database software technology. During his time at Informix, he served as president and chief operating officer as well as president of the workstation products division. Annual revenues of Informix grew from $70 million to $170 million by the time Mr. Brown left the company in 1990. In 1993, he was a founding investor of Visual Tools, a company that writes and markets component software for the growing Visual Basic and Visual C++ developer market. Sybase Software acquired Visual Tools in 1996.
Mr. Brown received a Master of Science in molecular and cellular biology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1997 and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1979.
